Black Teas Helps Reduce Risk of Stroke

A new study conducted by a group of scientists in Kolkata has concluded that 3 cups of black tea (without milk) reduces the risk of stroke . The research work at the city’s Vivekananda Institute of Medical Science within the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan Hospital conducted a clinical trial on 1100 individuals with a focus on understanding the impact of black tea on preventing hypertension, cerebrovascular diseases and strokes.

The study measured that a chance of repeat stroke among tea drinkers was 19.08% while the same for non-tea drinkers was twice as much at 38.77%. Sandip K Bandyopadhyay, advisor to the National Tea Research Foundation (NTRF) was quoted as saying that “This is a four-year project. Earlier, all the experiments were done on rats and mice. This is the first time in India that the impact of black tea is being experimented on human beings. The recurrence of strokes can be delayed by regularly drinking tea without a halt.”

NTRF, is conducting the study, is an independent body funded and set up by the Indian Tea industry and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The researchers said tea should be taken in liquor form without milk, sugar or any other additives to get the desired result. Tea taken with milk and sugar reduces the impact of the liquor as black tea has many vital components, which are extremely beneficial for health.

Darjeeling Tea has anti-oxidative value that recharges the brain which protects people from cerebral stroke. Earlier observations reveal that daily consumption of 450 ml (around 3 cups) of tea may reduce the incidence of recurrent ischemic stroke and may give rise to better control of fasting hyperglycemia. Besides, it may be helpful in decreasing the level of total cholesterol as well as LDL cholesterol in subjects with hypercholesterolemia. Tea when taken in liquor form has has anti-oxidants that helps curb stress-related diseases and prevents stroke.
