Looking for genuine green tea, please help?
I’ve had Japanese green tea and it wasn’t see through it was a firm green color, but all the green tea’s I’ve tried in the usa turn brown when I boil them, Flavorite, Lipton, etc all turn brown, why is this? and what brand of green tea actually makes real green tea?
The brands you mentioned are not Japanese Green Teas, nor are they actual genuine green tea. What you are looking for is a loose Leaf Tea. Loose Leaf tea tends to have superior quality and flavor than bagged tea. Here are some websites selling real Japanese green tea: http://www.teatrekker.com/store/tea/green/green+-+japan.php, http://www.itoen.com/leaf/index.cfm
Some probable reasons why your tea turned brown could be that you over-steeped it, you used impure water, or your water temperature was too high. Japanese green teas are very sensitive to how they are brewed. They can be extremely bitter when prepared improperly. To make good quality Japanese green tea, follow the specific brewing instructions from the vendor. (These can be found on the links I provided above.) It is also very important that you use quality water, especially with Japanese green tea. The green color only comes out when the perfect type of water is used. This water type would have less minerals in it than generic tap water, but would have a small amount. I wouldn’t recommend using tap water or distilled water. You might want to try bottled spring water. Just make sure you use the proper brewing techniques and water types when making Japanese green tea (or any tea for that matter).
Enjoy your tea!
